Sebastian Schäfer (born 11 July 1979) is a German economist and politician of theAlliance 90/The Greens who has been serving as a member of theBundestag since 2021.
Schäfer was born 1979 in the West German town ofDettelbach. He studied philosophy at theUniversity of Erfurt andBeloit College, andeconomics at theUniversity of California, Berkeley.[1]
From 2018 to 2021, Schäfer worked atBaden-Württemberg's State Ministry of Finance.[2] He was a 2021/22 Marshall Memorial Fellow of theGerman Marshall Fund.
In the negotiations to form acoalition government under the leadership ofMinister-President of Baden-WürttembergWinfried Kretschmann following the2021 state elections, Schäfer was part of the working group on the state budget, led byEdith Sitzmann and Stefanie Bürkle.[3][4]
Schäfer was elected to the Bundestag in 2021.[5] He has since been serving on the Budget Committee and the Finance Committee.[6] In 2022, he also joined the parliamentary body charged with overseeing a 100 billion euro special fund to strengthen Germany'sarmed forces.
