The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry (SNIY) is a reservelight cavalry regiment created in 2014 as part of the restructuring of theBritish Army'sArmy Reserve. It is operationally paired with theRoyal Scots Dragoon Guards, based atLeuchars Station inFife, Scotland. The regiment has numerous squadrons across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
On 31 October 2014, under theArmy 2020 plan, the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry was formed from the regimental headquarters of theRoyal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry and three squadrons of theQueen's Own Yeomanry.[2][3] The new regiment was also to include theLothians and Border Horse, which was re-raised shortly thereafter.[4]
In 2018, the regiment was present with its first regimentalguidon byFrank Ross,Lord Provost of Edinburgh, on behalf of the Sovereign.[2]

In accordance with theStrategic Defence and Security Review (2020), the regiment is paired with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in the light cavalry role. It is primarily equipped with theJackal reconnaissance vehicle, having converted from the RWIMIK platform.[12] The regiment was formerly under the control of51st Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland, but came under control of19th Brigade in 2022;[13] it is the only army reserve armoured unit in Scotland andNorthern Ireland.[2][3]
The regiment recruits soldiers from around the Scottish counties ofLanarkshire,Lothian,Angus andAyrshire, and fromNorthern Ireland.[14]
