Scott Matlock (born June 28, 2000) is an American professionalfootballfullback anddefensive end for theLos Angeles Chargers of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theBoise State Broncos.[2]
Matlock exclusively played defense as a rookie and became a two-way player in his second season after the Chargers replacedBrandon Staley, their head coach during Matlock's rookie season, withJim Harbaugh.

Matlock was drafted by theLos Angeles Chargers in the sixth round, 200th overall, of the2023 NFL draft.[5] In his rookie year Matlock played in 12 games and recorded 14 total tackles.
Under new Chargers head coachJim Harbaugh andoffensive coordinatorGreg Roman, Matlock became a two-way player during the 2024 NFL offseason and began playingfullback on offense while continuing to playdefensive end on defense. Roman had previously used a defensive end/fullback hybrid during his tenure as the offensive coordinator of theBaltimore Ravens with Ravens playerPatrick Ricard. Matlock previously had experience as a two-way player at the collegiate level, where he occasionally playedtight end in addition to his primary position ofdefensive end atBoise State.[6] In Matlock's first regular season game as a two-way player, he played 18 offensive snaps, 16 defensive snaps, and 14 special teams snaps in a 22-10 win against theLas Vegas Raiders during Week 1 of the2024 NFL Season. Matlock recorded a tackle and his first career pass deflection the following week against theCarolina Panthers as the Chargers won 26-3. Matlock recorded his first career reception for seven yards in a Week 4 loss against theKansas City Chiefs. In Week 8, Matlock recorded his first career sack against theNew Orleans Saints, along with one tackle and one reception for nine yards in a 26-8 win for the Chargers.
He finished the 2024 season with 4 receptions on 5 targets for 28 yards and 9 tackles, 1 sack, and one pass deflection. He played 362 snaps on offense, 137 snaps on defense, and 231 snaps on special teams during the 2024 season.
