TheScotland women's national field hockey team representsScotland in international women'sfield hockey competitions, with the exception of theOlympic Games when Scottish players are eligible to play for theGreat Britain women's national field hockey team as selected.[ 2] Scotland recently participated in the inaugural season of theFIH Hockey World League , but were knocked out inround 2 , failing to qualify for the2014 Hockey World Cup inThe Hague , Netherlands.[ 2] As of November 2015[update] they are seventeenth in theFIH outdoor world rankings.[ 3]
Competing as Great Britain [ edit ] Scotland do not compete at theOlympic Games , but Scottish players are eligible to play forGreat Britain as selected. Great Britain instead of the four individual home nations (including Scotland) also compete at certain editions of both theFIH Hockey World League , usually when the tournament serves as an Olympic Games qualifier (most recently in2014–15 ), and theFIH Hockey Champions Trophy , when held during Olympic years (most recently in2016 ).
At the1992 Olympic Games , Scottish field hockey players,Susan Fraser ,Wendy Fraser andAlison Ramsay won bronze medals, as part of the Great Britain team in thewomen's tournament .[ 4] Scottish playersLaura Bartlett andEmily Maguire repeated the feat at the2012 Olympic Games .[ 5] [ 6] Also with the Great Britain team, Maguire won silver at the2012 FIH Hockey Champions Trophy (as did Bartlett), and a gold medal for winning the2014–15 FIH Hockey World League Semi-finals .[ 5] [ 6]
