
Schilksee (German pronunciation:[ˈʃɪlkˌzeː]ⓘ) is a town on theDanish Wahld peninsula in theKieler Förde. In 1959, the town was incorporated into the city ofKiel, therefore today sometimes named asKiel-Schilksee (German pronunciation:[kiːlˈʃɪlkˌzeː]ⓘ).
The town is a popular vacation destination because of its beaches and houses severalresorts.[1]
Sailing events were held off Schilksee during the1936 Summer Olympics.[1]
During the1972 Summer Olympics, held inMunich, Germany, theOlympic Yachting Center was built at Schilksee for thesailing events of the 1972 games.[2]
