Scarlett Talulla Ava Hughes (born 18 June 2002) is an Englishcricketer who currently plays forThe Blaze. She plays as awicket-keeper and left-handedbatter. She has previously played forEssex andSunrisers.[1][2]
Hughes was born on 18 June 2002 inCambridge.[2] She was diagnosed withType 1 diabetes when she was 10 years old.[3][4]
Hughes made her county debut in 2017, forEssex againstCambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire in theCounty Championship.[5] She became a regular for the side in 2019, and made 12 dismissals that season.[6][7] She scored 63 runs for the side in the2021 Women's Twenty20 Cup, including scoring 46 againstSurrey.[8][9] In the2022 Women's Twenty20 Cup, she was the 7th highest run-scorer across the whole competition with 233 runs, including two half-centuries and herTwenty20 high score, of 70 againstCambridgeshire.[10][11] She played three matches for the side in the2023 Women's Twenty20 Cup, scoring 47 runs.[12]
Hughes was named in theSunrisers squad for the2020 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, but did not play a match for the side that season.[13] She was moved to the side's Academy squad for the 2021 season.[14] She returned to the Sunrisers squad in 2022.[15] She made her debut for the side on 14 May 2022, againstSouth East Stars in theCharlotte Edwards Cup.[16] She played seven matches for the side overall in 2022, across theCharlotte Edwards Cup and theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, scoring 20 runs.[17][18] She was included in the Sunrisers squad for 2023, but did not play a match.[19]
In December 2023, it was announced that Hughes had signed forThe Blaze.[20]
