Eyeline is a Canadian visual effects and animation company founded in 1989 inMunich. The studio was led by VFX SupervisorStephan Trojansky. The company has 7 locations including Munich,Stuttgart,Los Angeles,Vancouver,Montreal,London, andSeoul.[1]
Scanline has recently completed work on films from theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) such asSpider-Man: Far From Home (2019),Black Widow,Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings andEternals (all 2021), and films based onDC Comics such asZack Snyder's Justice League,The Suicide Squad (both 2021) andThe Batman (2022). They have also worked onTerminator: Dark Fate,Gemini Man (both 2019),Godzilla vs. Kong,Free Guy andDon't Look Up (all 2021).
In terms of television, Scanline has worked onGame of Thronesseason eight (2019),Shadow and Bone (2021–2023),Foundation (2021–present),Cowboy Bebop (2021) andStranger Thingsseason four (2022).
In November 2021,Netflix announced that it would acquire Scanline with plans for it to operate as a standalone business working with a variety of clients.[2][3] The acquisition closed in the first quarter of 2022.[4]
In October 2025, Scanline VFX have merged with Eyeline Studios as "Eyeline".[5]
Scanline is responsible for the development of its proprietary fluid effects software, Flowline. Scanline was the sole developer of Flowline and in 2008, was the recipient of a Scientific and Technical AchievementAcademy Award for the software.[6]
In 2010, Scanline was nominated for anAcademy Award for Best Visual Effects for its work onClint Eastwood'sHereafter, for which it was the sole visual effects vendor.[7]
Scanline received aBAFTA nomination forBest Special Visual Effects in 2010 for its work onIron Man 3[8] as well as a secondAcademy Award nomination forBest Visual Effects in 2014, forCaptain America: The Winter Soldier.[9]
In 2010, Scanline won its firstVisual Effects Society Award forOutstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture forHereafter.[10] Scanline has twoEmmy Awards forOutstanding Special Visual Effects to its credit for its work on Season Four[11] and Season Eight[12] ofGame of Thrones as well as anHPA Award for Outstanding Visual Effects[13] and aVisual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Created Environment for episodeThe Iron Throne.[14]
