Savel Zimand

Savel Zimand (May 14, 1891,Iasi,Romania–1967) was a health educator, and journalist. From 1909 to 1912 he studied inBerlin,Germany attending the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Berlin'sSeminar of Oriental Languages and theHöhere Webeschule, a technical college.He left for theUnited States of America in 1913.[1] He was avisiting lecturer atYale University and occasionally lectured atHarvard andColumbia universities.[2]

His father was Morris Zimand and his mother Marie Kauffman Zimand. He became a naturalised US citizen in 1919[2] In 1926 he married Gertrude Folks, the daughter ofHomer Folks, who worked for theNational Child Labor Committee at the time.[3]

He wrote a number of articles forThe New York Times including interviews withLeon Trotsky,Mahatma Gandhi andNadezhda Krupskaya

He died in theColumbus_Hospital, New York in December 1967.[2]
