

Sausage gravy is a traditionalSouthern breakfast dish in theUnited States.[1] After loose porksausage is cooked in a pan and removed, aroux is formed by browningflour in the residual fat.Milk and seasonings, such as salt and pepper, are added to create a moderately thickgravy, to which the cooked sausage is added.[2] Occasionally, ingredients such ascayenne pepper or a spicy sausage are used to make a spicier gravy.
Sausage gravy is traditionally served as part of the dishbiscuits and gravy and accompanied by other typical Southern breakfast items, such asfried eggs, slicedtomatoes andbacon.
