Saukiog

TheSaukiog tribe (sometimes spelled Sickaog or Suckiaug[1]) was aNative American people who lived in theHartford, Connecticut vicinity around the early17th century.[2]

The Saukiog spoke anAlgonquian dialect and were part of theAlgonquian confederation.[1] In 1636,sachem (chief) Sequassen sold their land to the British.[2] Some Saukiog may have subsequently joined theMattabeseck, and after 1650, thePocumtuc tribes.[citation needed]
