Sarah Greene (born 24 July 1984)[2] is anIrish actress and singer. She won acclaim for portraying Helen McCormick in theWest End andBroadway productions ofThe Cripple of Inishmaan.
For her performance in the role, she was nominated for the 2014Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and the 2014Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She won anIrish Film and Television Award for Best Actress - Drama, as Hecate Poole in theShowtime andSky seriesPenny Dreadful, as well as starring as Maxine in the CBS seriesRansom.
Greene was born inCork, Ireland.[1]
She became interested in acting when she sawRed Riding Hood along with her parents at theOpera House inCork. A short time later she joined the CADA Performing Arts in Cork, where she took part in theatre plays and musicals until she was 19 years old.[3]When Greene was six years old she first appeared on stage. She played a twin in the theatre playThe King and I at the Opera House in Cork.[4] After leaving CADA Performing Arts she was trained at theGaiety School of Acting inDublin, from which she graduated in 2006.
In Greene's first film appearance, in 2008, she played Imelda Egan inEden. In 2009, she appeared as the barmaid Cathleen inLove and Savagery.[5] In 2010, she starred as Amber in the playGrimm atThe Peacock theatre in Dublin.[6] In 2011, she played Sinead Mulligan in the filmThe Guard.[7]
In 2013 and 2014, she appeared withDaniel Radcliffe in the theatre playThe Cripple of Inishmaan. For her performance as Helen McCormick she was nominated for theTony Award and theLaurence Olivier Award as best actor in a supporting role.[8] In 2014, she appeared inThe Assets.[9] InNoble, she played Christina Noble.[10][11][12] In 2015, she played Hecate Poole inPenny Dreadful.[13] In 2019, she began to play one of the leads onDublin Murders, as Detective Cassie Maddox.[14]
Greene is engaged to musicianNathan Connolly. They have one son together.[15]
