Santragachi Junction railway station (SRC) is arailway junction inSouth Eastern Railway Zone ofIndian Railways, situated inSantragachhi,Howrah, India.[5] The station is operated by theSouth Eastern Railway (SER) zone ofIndian Railways.[5] It is one of five large intercity railway stations serving theKolkata metropolitan region, India. The other stations areSealdah,Howrah,Shalimar andKolkata station.
While the station had existed for many years on the line toHowrah railway station, work for its upgrade to a railway terminal started in 2015.[5]SER wished to use it for their long-distance trains which reduces the load on the crowdedHowrah railway station, which is operated byEastern Railway.[5]
In 2018 two people died due to a stampede at the railway station.[6] According toThe Hindu, the two were killed when a train hit them when they were crossing the railway tracks on foot.
