Santos Futebol Clube is a Brazilian professionalfootball club, based inSantos,Brazil.[1] They play in theCampeonato Paulista,[2]São Paulo's state league, and theCampeonato Brasileiro Série A orBrasileirão,[3] Brazil's national league, and are one of the only three clubs to have never been relegated, along withSão Paulo andFlamengo.[4] Santos was a founding member of theClube dos 13 (English: Club of the 13) group of Brazil's leading football clubs.[5][6]

The club has contributed many players to the Brazil national team, including to Brazil's World Cup-winning teams, especially during thegolden generation of players known asOs Santásticos (The Santastics), from 1956 until 1974. Led byLula, the team won a total of 22 titles between 1959 and 1974,[7][8] including twoCopa Libertadores,[9] the most prestigious laurel in South American football.[10][11]Os Santásticos dominated theBrazil national football team and had what was considered by some the best club team of all times,[12] and became a symbol ofJoga Bonito (English: The Beautiful Game) infootball culture, thanks to figures such asGilmar,Mauro,Mengálvio,Coutinho,Pepe and the iconicPelé, named the "Athlete of the Century" by theInternational Olympic Committee,[13] and widely regarded among football historians, former players and fans to be one of the best and most accomplished footballers in the game's history.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]

Santos contributed players to the victorious Brazil national teams of1958,1962 and1970FIFA World Cups. It has also contributed players to the winning sides of the1916,2004 and2007 Copa Américas as well as the2005 and2013FIFA Confederations Cup. One Santos player has won theGolden Ball award at the World Cup with Brazil; Pelé in 1970.Neymar replicated Pelé at the Confederations Cup by winning that competition's golden ball.Pinga andNarciso represented Brazil in medal winning squads at the1984 and1996 Summer Olympics.
