Santiago Leonel Sosa (born 3 May 1999) is an Argentine professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder And he is the captain of the clubRacing Club de Avellaneda in theArgentine Primera División.
Sosa's career began withMercedes, beforeRiver Plate signed him in 2018.[4][5] The2018–19 campaign saw Sosa become a senior member of the club's first-team, he made his professional career debut in a2018 Copa Libertadores fixture withRacing Club on 29 August 2018; he featured for the remaining sixteen minutes as River Plate won 3–0.[1][6][7] He ended the aforementioned season with five total appearances.[1]
In February 2021, Sosa signed withMajor League Soccer clubAtlanta United.[8] On 6 April 2021, Sosa made his club debut in their 1–0 victory overAlajuelense in theCONCACAF Champions League.[9] He then scored his first goal for Atlanta United on 4 May 2021 against thePhiladelphia Union in the Champions League, the match ending in a 1–1 draw.[10]
Born and raised in Argentina, Sosa is of Croatian descent and holds dual citizenship.[11] Whilst with River Plate, represented theArgentina U20 team; including in training sessions with theseniors.[12] Sosa was selected for the2019 South American U-20 Championship.[13] He also made the squad for the2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland,[14] where he made four appearances in the tournament.[1]
