Santiago is an album byThe Chieftains, released throughRCA Records in 1996.[1] The album is dedicated totraditional music of Galicia, the region in the northwest ofSpain, and also adaptation ofGalicianemigrants' musical folklore inLatin American music, for example, in the music ofMexico andCuba. AsPaddy Moloney noted in the CD's booklet,Galicia is "the world's most undiscoveredCeltic country".
The album features collaborations withCarlos Núñez,Linda Ronstadt,Los Lobos,Ry Cooder,Eliot Fisk,Richard Egües,Pancho Amat,Kepa Junkera, Júlio Pereira, (among others). In1997, the album earned the group theGrammy Award forBest World Music Album.[citation needed]
