Santō (山東町,Santō-chō) was atown located inSakata District,Shiga Prefecture,Japan. There wasKashiwabara-juku inEdo period.
As of 2003, the town had an estimatedpopulation of 13,393 and adensity of 252.17 persons per km2. The total area was 53.11 km2.
On February 14, 2005, Santō, along with the towns ofMaihara andIbuki (all fromSakata District), was merged to create the city ofMaibara.[1]
