Sandy Creek is a rurallocality in theSomerset Region,Queensland, Australia.[3] In the2021 census, Sandy Creek had a population of 593 people.[2]

Geography

Sandy Creek is located northeast ofKilcoy inSouth East Queensland.[4]

Many parts of Sandy Creek are elevated along the southernConondale Range and some of the range is protected withinBellthorpe National Park.[4]

History

Winya State School opened in 1918 and closed in 1960.[8] The school was on a 5-acre (2.0 ha) site on the north-east corner of theD'Aguilar Highway and Sandy Creek Road (26°55′45″S152°36′26″E / 26.9293°S 152.6073°E /-26.9293; 152.6073 (Winya State School (former))) now within the locality of Sandy Creek.[9][10][4]

Hubners Bridge, also known as Hubner Bridge, is aroad bridge on the Sandy Creek Road over Sandy Creek (26°51′13″S152°37′36″E / 26.8537°S 152.626642°E /-26.8537; 152.626642 (Hubners Bridge)). The bridge was washed away on 9 January 2011 (2011-01-09) during the catastrophic2010–2011 floods.[11] Aflying-fox was built across Sandy Creek to provide supplies to residents stranded due to bridge damage.[12] It has been rebuilt since then and was re-opened on 6 April 2012 (2012-04-06).[13]

In the2016 census, Sandy Creek had a population of 567 people.[15]

In the2021 census, Sandy Creek had a population of 593 people.[2]
