Sandra Völker (born 1 April 1974) is a retiredfreestyle andbackstrokeswimmer fromGermany, former world record holder in50 metres backstroke. She was also multiple World and European champion, in both Long and Short Course Championships.[1]
Völker won a total number of three (one silver, two bronze) medals at the1996 Summer Olympics inAtlanta, United States. There she made her second Olympic appearance. Völker competed in four Olympics, making her debut inBarcelona, Spain in 1992.[1]
During Völker's preparation for the2000 Summer Olympics, she was diagnosed as havingasthma, and a year later founded astiftung for children with asthma and allergies.[2]Völker's autobiography was published in 2015.[3]
Aus eigener Betroffenheit – die Diagnose Asthma bronchiale traf Sandra Völker während den Vorbereitungen auf die Olympischen Sommerspiele 2000 – gründete sie ein Jahr später die Stiftung für asthma- und allergiebetroffene Kinder.
