American football player
Sandra Douglass Morgan (born April 10, 1978) is anAmerican football executive and attorney, who is currently the president of theLas Vegas Raiders of theNational Football League . She is the first Black and Asian woman to serve as an NFL team president. Douglass Morgan previously served on theNevada State Athletic Commission and was the chairwoman of theNevada Gaming Control Board among other roles.
Douglass Morgan's father, Gilbert, is a Black American retiredUnited States Air Force veteran. Her mother, Kil Cha, is Korean.[ 1] [ 2]
Raised in Las Vegas, Douglass Morgan graduated fromEldorado High School , earned a bachelor's in political science and communication from theUniversity of Nevada, Reno in 1999 before graduating from theUniversity of Nevada, Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law with aJuris Doctor degree in 2003.[ 3] [ 4]
Initially a defense attorney, Douglass Morgan later became a litigation attorney forThe Mirage from 2005 to 2008, was the city attorney forNorth Las Vegas from 2008 to 2016 becoming the first Black person to hold such a role in Nevada, and director of external affairs forAT&T Services from 2016 to 2019.[ 5] Later she joined theNevada State Athletic Commission ,[ 6] theNevada Gaming Commission [ 7] and later theNevada Gaming Control Board in 2019, appointed by GovernorSteve Sisolak ,[ 8] becoming the first Black chair.[ 9] During her tenure she introduced reforms - as the proposal to require to gaming companies to establish written policies against harassment and discrimination towards their own employees based on factors such as sex, race, color, gender identity, and national origin -[ 10] and was responsible for closing and reopeningcasinos during theCOVID-19 pandemic .[ 11] In this period she also served in the State COVID-19 task force.[ 12]
After leaving the control board[ 9] Douglass Morgan joined the board ofCaesars Entertainment [ 13] as well as the boards ofFidelity National Financial, Inc. ,[ 14] Allegiant Airlines ,[ 15] and Cerberus Cyber Sentinel.[ 16] Morgan joined the law firm ofCovington & Burling LLP as counsel in November 2021[ 17] and also ran her own consulting service, Douglass Morgan LLC.[ 18] In December 2021 Douglass Morgan was also named vice chair of Las Vegas’ host committee forSuper Bowl LVIII , which is scheduled for February 2024.[ 19]
On July 7, 2022, theLas Vegas Raiders announced Douglass Morgan as the new team president.[ 20] The hiring made her the first black and asian female team president in theNational Football League .[ 21] She is also the third woman and third African-American in NFL history to become a president of an NFL team.[ 22]
Douglass Morgan is married to formerMinnesota Vikings andArizona Cardinals safetyDon Morgan . The couple has two children.[ 23]
