San Felipe Creek is astream inImperial andSan Diego Counties ofCalifornia. It arises in theVolcan Mountains of San Diego County33°11′57″N116°37′35″W / 33.19917°N 116.62639°W /33.19917; -116.62639, and runs eastward, gathering the waters of most of the eastern slope of the mountains and desert of the county in the San Sebastian Marsh before it empties into theSalton Sea.[1] It is probably the last remainingperennial natural desert stream in theColorado Desert region.[2][3] In 1974, the San Felipe Creek Area was designated as aNational Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.[4]
Parts of the land around the creek are owned by theBureau of Land Management (classified as anArea of Critical Environmental Concern) and theCalifornia Department of Fish and Wildlife (as a Ecological Reserve).[5][6]
