Samir Mahmoud Ahmed Gouda (born 3 May 1972) is an Egyptian-Ukrainian[1][2] former professionalbasketball player and currentcoach. He currently serves as an assistant coach forZamalek of theEgyptian Super League. During his playing career, at a height of 2.18 m (7 ft 2 in) tall, and a weight of 129 kg (285 lbs.)[3] Gouda played at thecenter position. As a player, Gouda represented his country's national team, as he was a member of the seniorEgyptian national team.
Gouda started his proclub career in 1994, with thePiratas de Quebradillas, inPuerto Rico'sBaloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league.[4] In 1995, he moved toGreece to play, and he would go on to spend four seasons playing there, with four different teams. In 1999, Gouda joined theLebanese League clubAl Riyadi Beirut, and he joined the Egyptian club Zamalek, in 2000.
In 2003, Gouda signed with theTurkish Super League clubFenerbahçe.[5] Gouda finished his pro club playing career back in Egypt, withAl Ahly, in 2010.
Gouda played with the senior men'sEgyptian national team at the1994 FIBA World Championship.[6] He tied a tournament record for the most rebounds in a game, with 16 rebounds, in a 76–69 win overCanada.[7] Gouda also won bronze medals with Egypt at the2001 FIBA Africa Championship and the2003 FIBA Africa Championship.
