Sam (Korean: 삼;Hanja: 參) was one of the four members (alongsideNo In,Han Eum andWang Gyeop) who operated the government ofWiman Joseon. He was achancellor of Nigye (Hangul:니계Hanja:尼谿) and it was where he based himself for.[1] He was the only one who did not have afamily name among the 4 members.[2][3] In BC 109 to 108, when theHan dynasty attacked Wiman Joseon, those three exiles fromChina, No In, Han Eum and Wang Gyeop surrendered instantly, leaving the King of Wiman JoseonUgeo and Sam as the only ones to resist against Han China among those members. However, in BC 108, Sam sent an assassin to Ugeo, killed him and surrendered to the Han dynasty.[4] After his surrender, he was nominated as a peerage of Hwae Cheong (Hangul:홰청Hanja:澅清) by the Han dynasty. 11 years later, he was arrested on suspicion of hiding the fugitive from Wiman Joseon and died of illness while he was inprison.[5]
