Sam Webster (born 16 July 1991) is a former New Zealandtrack cyclist. He was the sprint, keirin and team sprint World Champion at the2009 Junior World Championships and New Zealand nationaltrack cycling champion. He won gold medals at the2014 Commonwealth Games in theindividual sprint and theteam sprint.
Born inAuckland in 1991, Webster attendedAuckland Grammar School.[1] Webster is a track cyclist competing in a variety of sprint disciplines. Hispalmarès include a gold medal at the January 2009Australian Youth Olympic Festival in the men's sprint.[2] At theJunior World Championship inAugust 2009 in Moscow, he won gold in the team sprint, Keirin and sprint. From the Junior World Championships, he moved into the elite category. Webster is a member of the New Zealand team sprint team that has made the consistent climb at theWorld Championships, from Bronze in2012 (Melbourne), Silver in2013 (Minsk) and Gold in2014 (Cali, Colombia), claiming their first World Champions rainbow jersey in the elite ranks.
At the2010 Commonwealth Games inDelhi, Webster raced his way to Bronze in the sprint and Silver in the team sprint but suffered a big crash in the team sprint in the race for gold. At the2016 Rio Olympics, he won alongsideEddie Dawkins andEthan Mitchell a silver medal in the Cycling at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Team Sprint.
At the2018 Commonwealth Games, Webster won Gold in theteam sprint event alongsideEthan Mitchell andEddie Dawkins.[3]
On 9 November 2022, Webster announced his retirement from cycling.[4]
