Sam Black Church, known today asSam Black United Methodist Church,[2] is an historicCarpenter Gothic-style church located atSam Black Church near theunincorporated community ofSmoot inGreenbrier County,West Virginia.
The historic white frame church was built in 1902 and named in honor ofReverend Sam Black, a circuit-ridingSouthern Methodist preacher who died in 1899.[3] It is a small one story building with a gable roof. It features a square, openbell tower with a hipped roof. It is located at the intersection ofInterstate 64 andU.S. Route 60 on theMidland Trail, aNational Scenic Byway.[4]
It was listed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1999.[1]
