TheSalem metropolitan statistical area, as defined by theUnited States Census Bureau, is ametropolitan statistical area consisting of two counties inwesternOregon, Marion and Polk. The principal city isSalem, the state capital, which has a population of 175,535.[5]
A July 1, 2024 census estimate placed the population at 443,416,[2] an increase of 2.27% from the2020 census, an increase of 11.88% from the2010 census, and an increase of 21.70% from the2000 census.
