SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) is aprivatedeemed university located inKattankulathur, (nearChennai),Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, it gained the deemed University status in 2002. SRM Institute of Science and Technology is spread across six campuses — Chennai (Kattankulathur,Ramapuram,Vadapalani, Baburayanpettai),Ghaziabad andTiruchirappalli. Those are all same off-campuses of same University with headquarters being inChennai (Kattankulathur) as per section 3 ofUniversity Grants Commission Act, 1956. It has three sister universities inAmaravati (Andhra Pradesh),Sonepet (Haryana) and Gangtok (Sikkim).[1]
SRM (Sri Ramaswamy Memorial) Engineering College, was established in 1985, followed by the other SRM colleges from 1992 to 1997.[2] The institute gaineddeemed status in 2002 as SRM Institute of Science and Technology and renamed SRM University in 2006.[2] In 2017, its name was reverted to SRM Institute of Science and Technology following UGC's order to drop "University" from the name.[3]
Located about 35 km (22 mi)[4] away from the city ofChennai, this campus is situated on a 250 acre[5] site overlookingGrand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road), NH-32. The main campus atKattankulathur consists of a College of Engineering and Technology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Science and Humanities, School of Management, School of Architecture and School of Law. It is also one of the few schools in India that offers a Degree in Telecom studies.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Ramapuram Campus, of the SRM Group of Institutions. Located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the Ramapuram campus is known for offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in fields such as engineering, management, science, and humanities.
The campus is equipped with laboratories, libraries, and other facilities to support the academic and extracurricular activities of the students.

Vadapalani Campus is located at Vadapalani, Chennai. This campus houses the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Science and Humanities. The SRM Institute for Medical Sciences is also located within the campus.[7]
The 250-acre (100 ha) campus at Trichy on the Trichy-Chennai highway houses the faculties of Engineering & Technology, Science & Humanities, Allied Medical Science and Management.[7]
