Suppressor of cytokine signaling 6 is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theSOCS6gene.[5][6][7]
The protein encoded by this gene contains aSH2 domain and a CIS homolog domain. The protein thus belongs to thecytokine-induced STAT inhibitor (CIS), also known assuppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) or STAT-induced STAT inhibitor (SSI)protein family. CIS family members are known to be cytokine-induciblenegative regulators of cytokine signaling. The expression of this gene can be induced byGM-CSF andEPO inhematopoietic cells. A high expression level of this gene was found in factor-independentchronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) anderythroleukemia (HEL)cell lines.[7]
