Société nationale des constructions aéronautiques du Midi (abbreviatedSNCAM[1]: 2 ) was a state-ownedFrench aircraft manufacturer. The company was formed following theresolution of the 1936general strike of Frenchheavy industry, when the government ofLéon Blum introduced an act to nationalize the French war industry on or before April 1, 1937.[1]: 2 The formerDewoitine aircraft company was placed under government control, and renamed SNCAM.[2] The company had been formed as one of six state-ownedSociété Nationales in the 1936 nationalistation of military industries, in late 1940 these were re-organised and SNCAM was absorbed bySNCASE. SNCASE later merged withSNCASO to formSud Aviation.[1]: 13 Through subsequent mergers, SNCAM's former holdings are now part of theAirbus group.
At this time, Dewoitine was wrapped up with his company in the governmental SNCA du Midi (Societé Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Midi).
