Monocarboxylate transporter 6 (MCT6) is aprotein in humans that is encoded by the SLC16A5gene.[5]
This gene encodes a member of themonocarboxylate transporter family and themajor facilitator superfamily. The encoded protein is localized to thecell membrane and acts as a proton-linked transporter ofbumetanide. Transport by the encoded protein is inhibited by four loopdiuretics,nateglinide,thiazides,probenecid, andglibenclamide. Alternative splicing results in multipletranscript variants.
