Environmental award

SEAL Awards are anenvironmentaladvocacy organization that uses annual awards for businesses and journalists to support environmental initiatives and to fund grants in the field ofpolicy research. The name is anacronym forsustainability, environmental achievement, and leadership.[1] The Awards were created in 2017 by businessman Matt Harney.[2]

Business Sustainability Awards

These awards honor corporate sustainability initiatives,sustainable products, and environmentally responsible innovation. Application fees for this award fund social impact campaigns andresearch grants.[1]

Environmental Journalism Awards

Twelve journalists each year receive recognition forenvironmental reporting, particularlyinvestigative journalism.[1] Past award winners include writers for traditional news media such asThe Guardian[3][4] and more recent, web-based platforms likeGrist[5][6][7] andMongabay.[8][9][10]

Impact Campaigns

SEAL Awards have advocated for the creation of a credit card whoseinterchange fees would pay into climate change programs rather than a traditional creditrewards program,[12] targetedcup waste in theStarbucks café chain[13] andYelp reviews of restaurants usingplastic straws,[14] and endorsedJay Inslee for the 2020 United States presidential campaign.[15] The environmental rewards credit card was presented as anopen-source concept in a detailedbusiness case launch memo.[16]

Environmental Research Grants

The research award is amonetary grant forgraduate students andpost-doctoral researchers at the beginning of their careers inenvironmental policy.[1][17]
