Shyam Narayan Arya is an Indian physician,^[1] writer and the former National Professor and dean of the College of General practitioners of theIndian Medical Association (IMA_GP).^{[citation needed]} He has published several medical papers and monographs,^[2] has contributed chapters to books published by others^{[citation needed]} and has delivered keynote addresses in many medical conferences.^[3]^[4] He is an alumnus of thePatna Medical College and Hospital of thePatna University^[5] and a Fellow of the Indian Association of Clinical Medicine (IACM),^[6] where he has served as its National President.^{[citation needed]} He is a recipient of theDr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian medical award.^[7] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of thePadma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medicine.^[8]
