Ryūji Miyajima (宮島 竜治,Miyajima Ryūji; born July 13, 1967)[1] is a Japanesefilm editor who has received sixJapanese Academy Awards, three for films directed byTakashi Yamazaki.
Mutajima was born on July 13, 1967,[1] inYokohama,Kanagawa, Japan.[citation needed] He began his long career in the Japanese film industry as a film editor onShunichi Nagasaki'sRomance (1996),[2] followed by Masato Hara's20th Century Nostalgia (1997),[3] and Katsuo Naruse'sImmoral Affairs (1997).[4] Thereafter, he worked on a wide range of obscure films from various directors and studios, including Akiyoshi Imazeki'sSeventeen,[5]Yuji Nakae'sHotel Hibiscus (both 2002),[6] andShinobu Yaguchi'sSwing Girls (2004),[7] andNobuhiro Yamashita'sLinda Linda Linda (2005).[8] He began working with filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki on his breakthrough filmAlways: Sunset on Third Street (2005),[9] as well as its sequelAlways: Sunset on Third Street 2 (2007),[10] before working with Yamazaki's future wifeShimako Satō on her filmK-20: Legend of the Mask (2008).[11] Miyajima then went on to collaborate with Yamazaki on almost all of his films thereafter, includingBallad (2009),[12]Space Battleship Yamato (2010),[12]The Eternal Zero (2013),[13]The Great War of Archimedes (2019),[14] andGodzilla Minus One (2023).[15]
