Ruta Gedmintas is a British actress known for her work on television. Her credits includeThe Innocence Project (2006–2007),The Tudors (2007),Spooks: Code 9 (2008),The Borgias (2011),Lip Service (2010–2012),The Strain (2014–2017), andHis Dark Materials (2019–2022).

Early life

Gedmintas was born inCanterbury, Kent, the daughter of aLithuanian father and anEnglish mother. She grew up inBuckinghamshire and trained at theDrama Centre London underReuven Adiv.[1]

Career

Gedmintas appeared inSpooks: Code 9 as Rachel Harris, a former police officer. She has also had guest roles in the BBC'sWaking the Dead and ITV1'sThe Bill. She also appeared asElizabeth Blount in Showtime'sThe Tudors.[1] In 2010 she worked on the independent filmsZerosome andAtletu (akaThe Athlete); and then starred as Frankie inBBC Three'sLip Service.[2][3]

Gedmintas appeared in the American dramaDo No Harm as Olivia Flynn. The series aired for one season from January through September 2013 before being cancelled. She starred in an episode of the critically acclaimed showRipper Street.[4] She also starred inThe Strain as Dutch, a computer hacker and resistance fighter.[5] In 2019 she was cast asSerafina Pekkala inHis Dark Materials.

Gedmintas starred in the playUnfaithful at London's Found111, alongsideSean Campion,Niamh Cusack, andMatthew Lewis.[4] She played Astrid inBackbeat,[4] a play aboutThe Beatles.[4]

She played Sophie in the black comedyStag.[4] She was Betty, an animal-loving neighbour inA Street Cat Named Bob,[4] released in November 2016.[4]
