Seyyed Ruhollah Khatami (Persian:سید روح‌الله خاتمی; 28 October 1906 – 27 October 1988) was a seniorIranian cleric in the city ofYazd.[1]

In July 1982, he was appointedprayer leader in the central Iranian city of Yazd byRuhollah Khomeini. He is the father of a number of notable Iranian politicians, including former presidentMohammad Khatami,Islamic Iran Participation Front founderMohammad-Reza Khatami, former presidential chief of staffAli Khatami, and Fatemeh Khatami, who was elected toArdakan'scity council in 1999.
