Rufus King Polk (August 23, 1866 – March 5, 1902) was aDemocratic member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania from 1899 to 1902.
Rufus K. Polk was born inColumbia, Tennessee, the son ofConfederate States ArmyBrigadier GeneralLucius E. Polk and great-nephew ofLeonidas Polk.
He attendedWebb's Academy inCulleoka, Tennessee, graduated fromLehigh University inSouth Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1887, and took a post-graduate course in mining engineering.
He settled inDanville, Pennsylvania, and was employed as achemist. He held supervisory positions with severalsteel companies and ultimately became engaged in the manufacture of structuraliron.
He was a delegate to the1900 Democratic National Convention.
He served as first lieutenant of Company F, Twelfth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, in theSpanish–American War.
Polk was elected as a Democrat to theFifty-sixth andFifty-seventh Congresses and served until his death inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania.
He is buried in Fairview Cemetery inDanville, Pennsylvania.
