Rudolf Hruska (2 July 1915 – 4 December 1995) was an Austrian automobile designer and engineer. He was most famous for his design of variousAlfa Romeo cars.
Hruska was born on 2 July 1915 inVienna. His family was originally fromBohemia. He lost his mother at the age of five. Rudolf was raised by his relatives as his father decided to start a new family.
After graduatingVienna University of Technology he worked forMagirus inUlm (1935–1938) andPorsche inStuttgart (1938–1945), developing theKdf-Wagen (1939) andVK 4501 (P) tank (1943). InMeran he andCarlo Abarth established aPorsche dealership (1945), and shortly after joinedPiero Dusio in theTurin-basedCisitalia racing car project (1946–1949). Hruska joinedFinmeccanica (1951–1954), consulting on theAlfa Romeo 1900. AtAlfa Romeo (1954–1959) he assistedOrazio Satta Puliga in theAlfa Romeo Giulietta, before joiningSimca andFiat (1960–1967), working on theSimca 1000 andFiat 124/Fiat 128. Hruska then designed theAlfa Romeo Alfasud and established the newAlfa Romeo Pomigliano d'Arco plant nearNaples (1967–1973). Since then he was in a design firm inArese (1974–1980) and atI.DE.A Institute in Turin (1980-).[1]
Hruska died on 4 December 1995 inTurin, at the age of 80.
