Rosslyn is anindustrialsuburb ofAkasia, 29 km north-west ofPretoria and part of theCity of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality in theGauteng province ofSouth Africa.[2]
This industrialized area is best known for itsautomotive industry, in particular theBMW South Africa factory, which opened in 1968. It was BMW's first factory outside of Europe.[3]
Nissan South Africa also maintains a factory there, manufacturing a vast range of motor vehicles, trucks, light delivery vans(locally known as "bakkies") and 4X4 offroaders.Iveco also operates a plant in the area.[4]
In 2012, vehicle manufacturing plants in South Africa contributed about 6.2% to the country's gross domestic product.[5]
