TheRossauer Barracks (German:Rossauer Kaserne[1]) is a barracks in the 9th district ofVienna, in theAlsergrund quarter of the city. It serves as the headquarters of theDefense Ministry.
In January 2020 the Rossauer Barracks were renamed theBernardis-Schmid-Kaserne.[2]
It was built as theCrown Prince Rudolf Barracks (Kronprinz-Rudolf-Kaserne, named afterRudolf, Crown Prince of Austria), at the same time as theFranz-Joseph-Kaserne andArsenal, as part of an overall approach to protect the city in the aftermath of the1848 Revolution.[citation needed]
