Roomano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Type of cheese from the Netherlands
Not to be confused withRomano cheese.

Roomano (Dutch:[roːˈmaːnoː]) is an agedhardGouda-stylecheese fromFriesland in the northernNetherlands.

While butterfat requirements for Gouda are 48% butterfat or more, Roomano contains less than 48% butterfat.[1] It is made fromcow's milk, and is typically aged for four or more years.[1][2] The cheese's flavor is very complex, salty and sweet with hints of roasted hazelnut and toffee.[2]

The cheese pairs well with strong flavors such as agedsherries, ports orBelgian ales.
