Ronald Torbert (born January 1, 1964) is an American professionalfootballofficial in theNational Football League (NFL). He has been an official since the2010 NFL season. He wears uniform number 62.
After graduating fromSouth High School inYoungstown, Ohio, Torbert graduated fromMichigan State University and then attendedHarvard Law School where he earned aJD.[1][2][3] At Harvard, Torbert was president of theHarvard Legal Aid Bureau.[4]
Torbert began his NFL officiating career in 2010 as a side judge before becoming a referee in the2014 NFL season afterScott Green andRon Winter announced they were retiring. Torbert is one of eight African-American referees in NFL history, afterJohnny Grier,Mike Carey,Jerome Boger, andDon Carey; he precededShawn Smith,Adrian Hill, andTra Blake.
Torbert was the alternate referee forSuper Bowl LIII. He is also featured in the NFL 100 year anniversary video which aired during that Super Bowl.
On January 25, 2022, Torbert was named the referee forSuper Bowl LVI.[5][6] On January 21, 2025, he was named the referee forSuper Bowl LIX.[7]

Outside of his NFL officiating job, Torbert was an attorney, retiring in 2019.[9][10] With his wife Melanie, he has a son and a daughter.[11]
