Ronald Stein (April 12, 1930 – August 15, 1988) was an Americanfilm composer. At the height of his career in the 1950s and ‘60s, he was best known for scoringB movies produced byAmerican International Pictures andRoger Corman.

Biography

Born inSt. Louis, Missouri, Stein wrote scores for manylow budgethorror andexploitation films during the 1950s and 1960s, most of which were released byAmerican International Pictures. These includedIt Conquered the World,Attack of the Crab Monsters,Invasion of the Saucer Men,Attack of the 50 Foot Woman,Hot Rod Gang,The Premature Burial andThe Haunted Palace. He also provided scores for major studio productions such asFrancis Ford Coppola'sThe Rain People, andRichard Rush'sGetting Straight.

Stein taught composition atCalifornia State University, Northridge. Stein also taught composition, arranging, orchestration and theory at theUniversity of Colorado Denver in the mid to late 1980s.

His song "Pigs Go Home" was sampled by rapperEminem for his 1999 song "Guilty Conscience".[1]

Some of Stein's papers and scores, especially for the filmsNot of This Earth andOf Love and Desire can be found in the archives of the Music Library atWashington University in St. Louis.

Stein died frompancreatic cancer inLos Angeles, California, in 1988. His son, Victor Warren (birth name, Victor Warren Stein), is an actor, writer, director, and producer with his own production company Glydascope inc inLos Angeles, California
