TheRome Prize is awarded by theAmerican Academy in Rome, inRome, Italy. Approximately thirty scholars and artists are selected each year to receive a studyfellowship at the academy.[1] Recipients must be American citizens.[2] Prizes have been awarded annually since 1921, with a hiatus during theWorld War II years, from 1942 to 1949.[3]: 13
