TheSupercupa României (English:Romanian Supercup) is aRomanianfootball championship contested by the winners of theLiga I and theCupa României. It is usually played at theArena Națională in Bucharest.

The competition started off in1994, with the first edition being won bySteaua București. In2010, for the first time in its history, the Supercup was held even thoughCFR Cluj had been victorious in both the league and the cup in the previous season. At that time, they facedUnirea Urziceni, the Liga I runners-up.[1]

The most successful performer so far isFCSB winning the competition 7 times.

Sponsorship

On 22 July 2005, FRF andSamsung Electronics signed a one-year sponsorship deal. The name of the competition was changed toSupercupa României Samsung for the 2005 and 2006 editions.[2]

On 9 October 2006, FRF andUrsus Breweries (part of theSABMiller group) signed a sponsorship agreement for the next three seasons. Ursus Breweries changed the name of the competition toSupercupa României Timișoreana, after theTimișoreana beer brand.[3][4]
