Roland Adrianus Martinus Bergkamp (born 3 April 1991) is a Dutch former professionalfootballer who played as aforward.[3]

Club career

Bergkamp began his career on youth side withExcelsior and was promoted to the senior team. He made his professional debut in the Jupiler League on 14 August 2009 againstFC Den Bosch and in theEredivisie on 15 August 2010 againstFeyenoord Rotterdam.[4]

On 1 July 2011, having rejected a new contract atExcelsior, Bergkamp signed for newly promotedChampionship sideBrighton & Hove Albion on a two-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.[5]

On 17 November 2011, Bergkamp signed forLeague One sideRochdale on an initial six-week loan deal.[6]Bergkamp made his debut in a 1–0 away win atPreston on 19 November 2011.

During the summer of 2012, Bergkamp signed a loan deal atEredivisie sideVVV-Venlo for the remainder of the 2012–13 season. He made his debut in a 2–2 draw against NEC Nijmegen.

After failing to make an appearance for Brighton, Bergkamp was released on 21 May 2013.[7]

Bergkamp returned to Rotterdam in summer 2015, when he signed forSparta after a successful stint atFC Emmen.[8][2]

After a two-year stint atRKC Waalwijk, Bergkamp moved toVV Katwijk where he retired in April 2020.[9][10]

International career

Bergkamp earned his first call-up for theNetherlands U21 national team for a friendly game againstGermany U21 and made in the game on 25 March 2011 his debut.[11]

Personal life

Roland is the nephew of formerAjax,Inter Milan andArsenal strikerDennis Bergkamp.[12] His father Ad Bergkamp is currently an orthopedic oncologist at his former clubExcelsior Rotterdam.[13]
