Rohan Vishnu Suppiah (born 23 March 1981) is a Malaysiancricketer.[1] A right-handedbatsman andoff spinbowler,[2] he has played for theMalaysia national cricket team since 1997.[3] His younger brotherArul also plays for Malaysia, and currently playscounty cricket forSomerset and is a former T20 world record holder.[4]

Life and career

Born in Kuala Lumpur in 1981,[2] Suppiah first played for Malaysia in the annualSaudara Cup match againstSingapore in September 1997. He played in theStan Nagaiah Trophy series against Singapore the following February.[5] He made hisList A debut the month after that, playing for Malaysia in the Wills Cup, a Pakistani domestic one-day tournament, againstPakistan International Airlines andLahore City.[6]

After playing in the Saudara Cup match that August,[5] Suppiah represented Malaysia in thecricket tournament at the1998 Commonwealth Games, hosted in his home city of Kuala Lumpur, in September, playing againstSri Lanka andJamaica.[6] He played in both the Saudara Cup and Stan Nagaiah Trophy the following year but missed the Saudara Cup in 2000.[5]

He did play in theACC Trophy in the United Arab Emirates in 2000 and 2001. After playing in the Stan Nagaiah Trophy,[5] he went to Ontario, Canada to play in theICC Trophy.[7] He did not play for Malaysia in 2002, returning for a match against theECB National Academy in February 2003.[5]

He started 2004 with two matches for a Malaysia Cricket Association Invitation XI againstEngland A and the Stan Nagaiah Trophy[5] before making hisfirst-class debut againstNepal in theICC Intercontinental Cup.[8] He played in the ACC Trophy and Saudara Cup in June and August respectively,[5] playing a second Intercontinental Cup match against theUAE in September.[8] He finished the year with anACC Fast Track Countries Tournament match againstHong Kong.[5]

He has been a regular member of the Malaysian side since 2005, playingACC Fast Track Countries Tournament matches against Singapore, Hong Kong, and Nepal;ACC Premier League matches against Hong Kong, Nepal and the UAE; the 2006 ACC Trophy, in addition to the annual Saudara Cup and Stan Nagaiah Trophy matches, though he missed the Saudara Cup in 2006 and the Stan Nagaiah Trophy was not played in 2007. Suppiah represented his country in the 2007ACC Twenty20 Cup in Kuwait.[5]
