Roches Noires orAssoukhour Assawda (Arabic:الصخور السوداء) is an arrondissement of easternCasablanca, in theAïn Sebaâ - Hay Mohammadi district of theCasablanca-Settat region ofMorocco. As of 2004 it had 104,310 inhabitants.[1]
A Frenchman namedEugène Lendrat founded the Roches Noires neighborhood and builtÉglise de Sainte Marguerite, a church inNeo-Gothic style replicating an 1860 church byÉmile Boeswillwald inPau, France.[2] The church in Roches Noires was converted intoAl-Quds Mosque after Morocco regained its independence.[3]
The French-Moroccan architectJean-François Zevaco designed theVincent Timsit Workshop on Blvd. Moulay Ismail in 1952.[4]
