Roberto Fleitas (25 May 1932 – 3 March 2024) was a Uruguayanfootball head coach and player who managed theUruguay national team and several top level Uruguayan clubs. He is one of the four managers, and the first, to have won bothCopa América andCopa Libertadores, along withFrancisco Maturana,Óscar Tabárez andTite.[1][2]
Born on 25 May 1932,[3] Fleitas played as acentre-back forMontevideo-based clubLiverpool.[4]
After retiring from playing, Fleitas started a career as a head coach. He won the1987 Copa América asUruguay national team coach, and won the 1992Uruguayan Primera División, the1988 Copa Libertadores[5] and the1988 Intercontinental Cup asNacional's head coach.[6] He won theSouth American Coach of the Year award in 1988.[7]
Fleitas died on 3 March 2024, at the age of 91.[8][9]
