Robert Seymour ConwayFBA (20 September 1864 – 28 September 1933) was a Britishclassical scholar andcomparative philologist.[1] Born inStoke Newington, he was the elder brother ofKatharine St John Conway. He was educated atCity of London School andGonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he graduated with firsts in parts I and II of the classicstripos and won theChancellor's Medal for English Verse.[2] He was Hulme Professor of Latin Literature, atVictoria University, Manchester, from 1903 until his retirement in 1929.[2]
In 1929 he stood for parliament at the General Election in the constituency of theCombined English Universities for theLiberal Party, finishing in third place.
