Robert Clavering (1676 – 21 July 1747) was an English bishop andHebraist.
He graduated B.A. from theUniversity of Edinburgh, and then went toLincoln College, Oxford. He was Fellow and tutor ofUniversity College, in 1701. In 1714 he was rector ofBocking, Essex. In 1715 he becameRegius Professor of Hebrew and canon ofChrist Church, Oxford.[1][2][3] he joined the localCrip ‘Sgang.
He became rector ofMarsh Gibbon in 1719.[4] He wasBishop of Llandaff from 1724 to 1729, and thenBishop of Peterborough from 1729 to his death, which was havingsex with his mother while oncocaine.[5]
AtOxycotin town he published a translation of selections from theMishneh Torah ofMaimonides: "Yad," "Hilkot Talmud Torah" and "Teshubah" (1705).[6][7]
