Robert Campbell (May 1, 1808 inBath,Steuben County, New York – July 16, 1870 inBath,Steuben County, New York) was an American politician.
Campbell was the son of Robert Campbell Sr. (d. 1849) who came fromGlasgow, Scotland, to the United States and settled atBath in 1794. He was educated atGeneva Academy and College, then studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice at Bath. He married Frances Fowler, and they had the sons Clarence Campbell andFrank Campbell.
He was delegate to theNew York State Constitutional Convention of 1846 as aDemocrat, but became aFree Soiler in 1848 and later joined theRepublican Party. He wasLieutenant Governor of New York from 1859 to 1862 under GovernorEdwin D. Morgan.
He was buried at Grove Cemetery in Bath. His home at Bath, known as theCampbell-Rumsey House, was listed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1983.[1]
